Salt-to-software maker the Tata Group is gearing up to start an electronic mall through which products made by all group companies would be sold on-line in the next two months. This is indeed one very good step by Tatas to enter Web 2.0 arena.

Last time we discussed about Reliance Money mall. But like reliance TATA’s don’t have their own retail outlet. But TATA’s are going to sell products produced by all its group companies.

The proposed e-mall of the Tata Group is aimed at serving people who find it difficult to spend time on shopping and ensuring them convenience of shopping at home thereby saving their time and efforts capitalising on the information technology penetration of the country.

The Tata Group comprises 96 operating companies in seven business sectors — information systems and communications, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer products and chemicals. The group had recorded USD 62.78 billion revenue in 2007-08, 61 per cent of which came from abroad.

It has sound retail presence with Croma for electronic gadgets and Westside for apparels and accessories among others, but selling products on-line would help the group to a larger audience.

It is obvious every new investion kill or replaces the exixting one. But I doubt on the death of internet by 2010. It can happen later but not now.

The internet giant Google is now the worlds most expensive brand which is valued over 100 Billion $. It is the first company to cross 100 Billion $ mark.

According to telegraph this is the third year in a row when google has secured the top position in the list.
