With the advent of internet, booking a train ticket has just got much easier. And now booking an e-ticket and travelling with an e-ticket has got much easier as an SMS sent by IRCTC can serve as a valid ticket, that means you don’t need to remove printout of your ticket! Saves paper and is environment friendly!

Earlier IRCTC had allowed screen-shots of the e-tickets on your mobile phones and other electronic gadgets. Now they have gone a step ahead of it!

An SMS sent by IRCTC would contain the following:

  • All the vital ticket details like PNR, Train Number, Date of Journey, Class, Name & Number of Passengers, Coach & Seat Number and Fare paid.
  • Also may accommodate (only if feasible) the names of all passengers booked on the e-ticket, otherwise maximum number of passengers. [Source]

One needs to display a valid photo id proof along with the SMS confirming as a ticket.

If a passenger fails to display this SMS (due to loss, discharged mobile/laptop etc.), but has the proof of identity, he/she has to pay a penalty of Rs 50 per ticket.

More over if you use a smart phone you can book your train tickets through http://www.irctc.co.in/mobile !

This is a great step taken by IRCTC. Innovation by an Indian PSU is always welcomed by the public in a positive way!

This will make life a bit simpler :) What say?
