Marketing Ideas: Leave your product

I was at this stationery shop and was waiting to get some photo copies of my documents, or should i say ‘xeroxed’. And as always i was staring impatiently at things kept in the shop. But to my surprise, i saw something what i never saw at any stationery shop in the past. A 5 inch thick book which book which read Minor Crime Act.

Who the hell is going to buy that, and who’s going to read it. Then i got to know from the shopkeeper that his lawyer friend had left it there to it pick up later. I didn’t dig into it much deep but i thought, what a way to pull people’s attention. Who wouldn’t want to inquire into an unusual thing lying at an unusual place.

Similarly, if any other thing which direly needs to attention, this idea could do wonders. Lets try to get this more real. We frequently get pamphlets, which is stuck in between the newspapers, from local vendors to sell their products. Its really irritating when you unfold the newspaper and a sudden rain of colorful pamphlets hits you. If you go through it, these low quality prints give you the notion that the products in these pamphlets are very ordinary and bland, even if the products are actually better.

But say,if the local vendors leave their product at any reliable place, they could get the much needed attention at no cost. For eg. a vendor who sells locally manufactured pressure cookers orĀ  frying pans can leave it at boutique. Naturally, the target customers are women, and a boutique can be a really good place to attract their attention.

Lets take another example for something intangible. A young Doctor could leave his Stethoscope, which we normally relate to a doctor, at a chemists shop. A Doctor’s target customers are patients, and they are more likely to be found at chemist.

What do you think about this idea? Could it be worth a try?
