How India can become a Soccer Super Power?

By giving economic incentives to North Indian youth. Let me back off and explain my super sweeping statement.

Two rising economic powerhouses – India and China are conspicuously missing from the World Cup. Thinkers and sports writers around the world have given reasons that are economic, administrative and political.

I think its got to do with the nature of the game. Soccer has become a very aggressive sport and it is not just about the skill anymore. When it was just skill, Indians were actually good at it. I am not an expert to comment on Chinese but the unpopularity of Soccer in Northern India which is considered to house more aggressive population is one reason we are still lagging at it.

What we need to do is give economic incentives to the kids to play soccer more in North India. This will also channelize the energy of youth chasing cricket dreams when in fact their attitude is much more aligned with soccer.

Do you have any ideas? However crazy they might be.

Hello Sumit,

To popularize a new sport, in a country like India plauged with Cricketing events, basically needs 4 aspects.

1) infrastructure to back the practicing for the events & organizing of such events domestically.

2) it needs back-up of a well-planned financial plan, somewhat on lines of IPL, which not only brings thorough professionalism but also pulls crowd.

3) Proper sponsorship and commercialization of brand aspects involved with the game.

4) In India, except for Cricket not many other sporting events will get going so easily. This ambiguity will take time to get adressed & long duration strategic tie-up with value-enhancers gains utmost significance.
