Chotukool by Godrej the lowest cost refrigerator

by Chirag on November 23, 2009

Godrej is launching the world’s lowest-cost refrigerator will be launched in March.

The bullock cart stops in one of the dusty alleys in Osnamabad, a small town in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. And two village girls, dressed in traditional Marathi Kasta Saree, step out in style with the products they have helped co-create with engineers at Godrej & Boyce.

The quality of the sales pitch of the Class 10-pass girls would do an MBA proud. For, they know the products well, as the company involved them right from the conception stage to designing and marketing its ‘nano’ refrigerators, named Chotukool (Little Cool). (Source)

Features of Chotucool:

Chotukool does not have a compressor. It looks like a 43 litre cool box, which is loaded from the top, and can run on battery.

The refrigerator weighs only 7.8 kg, runs on a cooling chip and a fan similar to those used to cool computers. Given the power shortage in the countryside, it also uses high-end insulation to stay cool for hours without power.

The operational cost is low: the refrigerator consumes half the power consumed by regular refrigerators.

What fascinating?

It costs around Rs 3250/- that is 35% less than the prevailing brand which is the cheapest at present.

More over they are employing girls to distribute the product and a commission will be paid of Rs 150 on per sale. By this the company says its distribution costs can reduce by 40%.

Indeed its a good prompt in rural areas. Its a hinterland where 70% of India resided a its very huge market there.

Again a Rural India Initiative. This again can change the life of many villagers!

we should proud on those girls, great mind. As indians need every thing in mini packets (scheche) as common man pocket dosn’t allow to buy large packs. All companies understand this very well and you get shampoo to cool oil in 1 gram packs. Similarly this refrigerator will rock in rural market, i hope.
